
Chatakpur
Chatakpur (altitude 7887 ft, latitude 27.60 degree E, latitude 88.59 degree N) accommodates 90 villagers consisted of 18 families. It is a forest village under Senchal Reserve Forest. The locals live on terrace cultivation of organic crops and the shrubs and medicinal herbs acquired from the forest, farm. Enough electricity, drinking water and arrangement of sanitation are shown in each and every house. This sanctuary is enriched with a number of streams and jhoras. It is the source of water supply in Darjeeling town. Views of Mt. Kanchanjungha and other snow capped mountains of West Sikkim, lush greenery, forest trails, wooden cottages and trekking routes offers a magnificent holiday. Sunset and sunrise from watch tower are most beautiful part of Chakakpur. To enjoy the colourful sunrise you need not wake up in the chilly night at Darjeeling and rush for Tiger Hill. Here, from watch tower be witness of beautiful sunrise with the riots of colour on Mt. Kanchanjungha range as of Tiger Hill. In fact, Chatakpur is just the next hill of Tiger Hill. Enjoy the great sunset at Mt. Kanchanjungha. At first sight you must love the place.

Mostly cold. The temperature in summer is 10 to 20 degree celsius , and in winter it may go down below freezing point.
How to reach:
Nearest rail station is Sonada and nearest airport is Bagdogra. Sonada is a railway station in Darjeeling Himalayan Railways route ( toy train ). From here avail a stiff road of 7 km through pine, teak, oak, birch forest to reach Chatakpur. Otherwise from NJP or Bagdogra hire a vehicle to visit here as toy train is not available all time. Jorbunglow is 18 km from Chatakpur.

Things to do:
Here, panda, leopard, black bear, barking deer and antilopes may be shown. So visit forest with a trained guide. Climb rock or trek here and there. You can trek to Tiger Hill, Rimbi village etc may be trekked through wild life sanctuary with expert guide. Small trek to Sixteen village and Labda will give pleasure for photographers. It is a paradise of bird watchers and nature lovers. Climb the watch tower to view the sunrise & enjoy Mt. Kanchanjungha & family. Spend time at Pokhri ( pond ), watch birds, enjoy folk dances. A generation still exists to share the experience of myth, culture and traditional values. Enjoy company of story tellers.

Home stay and lodge of forest department are available here. This place becomes popular holding the hand of forest department because the department has arranged electricity and water supply in this village. Home stay is available in a few house. Remember that all the home stays in Chatakpur have the facilities of Western toilet with geyser though in most cases, bath is not attached. However, they are situated just few steps beside your room.
