SILK ROUTE

INTRODUCTION

Before 2nd Century BC the emperors of                                                                                       Chaina wanted to protect ancient Chinese civilization from the rest of the world. But                                                                                       on 2nd century BC when Chinese ambassador Zhang Qian visited the central                                                                                   Asian countries came into the touch of the rich countries lying to the west from                                                                                         Chaina. According to him the Chinese king sent embassies there with famous                                                                                          Chinese silk and other gifts. Thus the silk route was opened holding the hand of                                                                                           Han Dynasty. Remember that the silk route was never a single-path route. Its                                                                                         system includes some branches of roads mainly passed across the different                                                                                                 mountain passes. It is a historically important international trade route between                                                                                  China and Mediterranean via India and some other countries. It is not just a trade                                                                                     route  for exchanging goods only but a cultural bridge linking mainly China, India,                                                                                     Persia, Arabia, Greek and Rome. Marco Polo came China for trade and fortune on                                                                                     1271 A.C. by the great silk route. Famous director Goutam Ghosh makes a                                                                                                   documentary film “ Beyond the Himalayas” on this famous silk route.
